Current Volunteer Opportunities (Unpaid Positions)
YFU Volunteer needed for 6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description: YFU Volunteering is Flexible and Engaging YFU volunteers can choose from a variety of positions to suit their interests, needs and schedule. The hours are flexible, and you can even be a virtual volunteer without ever leaving your home! YFU also gives you the freedom to promote programs in creative ways in your own community. You can work as a team, individually, with a friend or family member. A wide range of program volunteer positions are available at YFU, including American Overseas Volunteers, Area Coordinators and Representatives, International student volunteers and trainers. YFU provides all the training and tools you need, in both one-on-one and self-guided formats. YFU relies on the skills of volunteers to perform a wide range of tasks, including: • Administrative activities that help YFU provide more effective services to other volunteers, students, and families. • Interviewing prospective host families and/or teenagers who want to study abroad. • Planning and conducting orientations for international students, American Overseas students, host families, and/or natural families. • Delivering presentations about YFU programs to groups at schools and community events. • Recruiting host families and/or American Overseas students for YFU programs. • Supporting international students and their host families while on program, and pre-departure support to American Overseas students and their natural families.

Host an Exchange Student with YFU USA needed for 6 to 12 months
Opportunity Description: Hosting can be an enriching experience for the entire family that will last a lifetime. By opening your home and heart to a student from overseas, your family will gain a new global perspective, many memories, and - quite possibly - a new family member! • Help your student adapt to your family and to U.S. life and culture. • Provide a safe and loving home environment including a bed, a place to study • three meals a day Positions available in Heartland District: SD, ND, NE, CO, IA, KS, MO, IL, WI. • Individual should work to create interest and enthusiasm for international learning through Youth for Understanding exchange student program through presentations Volunteers needed to work with exchange students • Mentor and Monitor student’s progress • Scheduling and conducting school and community presentations. • Developing contacts within local schools and community organizations. • Enter your inquiries from presentations into the database and possibly inquiry follow-up calls. • Work with other individuals/volunteers to train presenters or utilize as resources of information as needed.

Youth For Understanding is one of the oldest and largest high school exchange programs in the world. We are a private, non-profit educational program dedicated to preparing young people for their responsibilities and opportunities in a changing, interdependent world.

YFU offers young people the adventure of a lifetime - the opportunity to explore other countries and cultures, master new languages, and discover themselves. We seek to transform young people by instilling passion for life-long learning, and the skills and knowledge to thrive and contribute amidst cultural diversity. To achieve these significant educational aims, we provide young people between the ages of 15 and 22 a variety of intensive exchange opportunities.
